The wind is fresh The wind is cool The blowing breeze makes its own rules The wind is restless It can harness power I see its features changing hour by hour Chorus: And the wind is always beating Everything within its range And I’m forever facing The emotional winds of change The wind is rough The wind is wild Its gusts are like a temperamental child The wind is stormy Causing devastation Hurricanes always get our attention Chorus: And the wind is always beating Everything within its range And I’m forever facing The emotional winds of change Bridge: And the winds of change Are in my mind They can help me sail my ship To better times Chorus: And the wind is always beating Everything within its range And I’m forever facing The emotional winds of change © Copyright Jaquie Daniels 2018

Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) Ten miles south west of London fair Since ’26 a borough there Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) There stands the first home that I knew 18 Gladstone Avenue Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) With Howard and Theresa I would play On swings and slides on sunny days Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) The home of English rugby games A hundred years it’s held that name Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) The rugby game’s on Saturday We’ll call at Lily’s on the way Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) At the Cabbage Patch we’ll sing out loud There’s always such a friendly crowd Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) To make a film where will you go? They closed that famous studio Go down, go down Go down to Twickenham Town (Repeat) © Copyright Jaquie Daniels 2011

Love and harmony combine And around our souls entwine While thy branches mix with mine And our roots together join Joys upon our branches sit Chirping loud and singing sweet Like gentle streams beneath our feet Innocence and virtue meet Then the golden fruit dost bear I am clad in flowers fair Thy sweet boughs perfume the air And the turtle buildeth there There she sits and feeds her young Sweet I hear her mournful song And thy lovely leaves among There is love I hear his tongue There his charming nest doth lay There he sleeps the night away There he sports along the day And doth among our branches play Love and harmony combine And around our souls entwine While thy branches mix with mine And our roots together join

7pm on Sunday The music’s on the stand Instruments are being tuned My bow is in my hand The conductor starts us off to play It’s not this piece, I find But it’s only a rehearsal I’ll get it right next time And now we’re playing happily The tunes are flowing free But what’s this funny noise – oh We’ve actually changed key 5 flats? Oh de-e-ar Well, it could sound quite sublime But it’s only a rehearsal I’ll get it right next time And now it’s going at a pace With semiquaver runs You need 20 fingers to play this That’s not counting the thumbs And now it’s getting worse Up the scale we climb But it’s only a rehearsal… Now we’ve got 20 bars Of exactly the same note This really is quite easy No need to practise this, I gloat Woops, we’re in bar 34 I thought we were in bar 29 But it’s only a rehearsal… Well, we practise every Sunday night In all kinds of weather You can tell there’s been rain tonight The pages are stuck together And trying to get them unstuck Is quite a pantomime But it’s only a rehearsal… It’s the day of the concert Mistakes? There’ve been a few The horns got two bars ahead And the ‘cellos missed a cue The percussion were far too loud But cheerfully we chime… It’s only a rehearsal We’ll get it right next time It’s only a rehearsal We’ll get it right next time © Copyright Jaquie Caulton 2004

Picking hops 03:02
See the families arrive In the warm September sun Aunts and uncles, cousins too Though it’s work they have good fun Joan and her sisters hand in hand How they’re laughing as they learn To the fields they’re heading now The harvest starts now they’ve returned Going up, going down Picking hops near Alton town Those ripened flowers are ready now For the beer they’re brewing In the fields of yellow flowers Every morning they’re installed Running up old King John’s Hill The children play until they’re called Joan and Tommy talk a while A strong aroma wafts on by The fruits of their labours now The hops are in the kiln to dry Going up, going down Picking hops near Alton town Those ripened flowers are ready now For the beer they’re brewing Evening comes with harvest moon Sometimes brighter than the sun Round the campfire singing loud With George on his accordion Finally to bed they go In huts, their shelter from the rain Weary, sleeping sound all night Till morning when they start again Going up, going down Picking hops near Alton town Those ripened flowers are ready now For the beer they’re brewing Years pass by, the families leave The sisters visit every year Staying at Three Horseshoes Inn Now old enough to taste the beer Joan paints pictures of the huts Reminded of the good times passed Thinks of Tommy her old friend And how these memories still last Going up, going down Picking hops near Alton town Those ripened flowers are ready now For the beer they’re brewing Going up, going down Picking hops near Alton town Those ripened flowers are ready now For the beer they’re brewing © Copyright Jaquie Daniels 2014

I’ve got this snazzy smartphone It sits in my bag over there It gives a little announcement That someone has something to share Is it a text or an email An update or someone’s new tweet? I’d check it but after the tenth time I’d rather save my poor feet, oh When I’m at work on my own Or watching the TV at home My phone goes do do do But I don’t know which app it’s on Perhaps I should keep it by me For as soon as I’ve put it down It gives that little announcement And I curse with a colourful noun Sometimes it’s quiet for hours I wonder if something is wrong Then three times in five minutes The icons don’t show very long, oh When I’m at work on my own Or watching the TV at home My phone goes do do do But I don’t know which app it’s on Yes, I admit it’s a Godsend Phone, email, text in one place You can play games and listen to music It’s amazing it’s got all that space Oh I love my Motorola It’s probably my second best friend I even love its do-doing Though it sometimes drives me round the bend, oh When I’m at work on my own Or watching the TV at home My phone goes do do do But I don’t know which app it’s on Repeat Chorus © Copyright Jaquie Daniels 2016

When little frustrations are getting you down When smiling is being replaced by a frown Lift up your heart and sing for the day Just one simple song can drive dull cares away Drive dull cares away Drive dull cares away Just one simple song can drive dull cares away When feeling downhearted and dead on your feet When you don’t want to mingle with people you meet Music brings colour when feelings are grey Just one simple song can keep sorrows at bay Keep sorrows at bay Keep sorrows at bay Just one simple song can keep sorrows at bay When listening carefully to a song that you’ve found A harmony can rearrange a whole sound A third or a fourth or a fifth from the tune Just one simple song can fly you to the moon Fly you to the moon Fly you to the moon Just one simple song can fly you to the moon A tune can be whistled or hummed quietly Develop a rhythm, establish a key Words tell a story or give feelings away Just one simple song will shine on, come what may Shine on, come what may Shine on, come what may Just one simple song will shine on, come what may Believe in yourself, keep great company Sing out or listen, let emotions run free It doesn’t matter if the tuning’s astray Just one simple song can brighten your day Can brighten your day Can brighten your day Just one simple song can brighten your day Can brighten your day Can brighten your day Just one simple song can brighten your day © Copyright Jaquie Daniels 2011

Maggie and Jo arrive at 11 Part of the Marie Curie team District nurse Penny at 2pm To check is all is well as it seems Then Jodie and Laura at 4 o’clock At 7 the Rowan nurses take their turn Twilight nurses on hand through the night For life goes on And they’re working round the clock 24/7, it never stops Giving their time all the while Always caring with a smile They have the kindest of hearts The bravest of souls they remain Like angels of mercy they spread their wings As they call on the sick to ease their pain Uniforms of blue, daffodil pins Pocket watches showing hours gone No one could fault their dedication And life goes on And they’re working round the clock 24/7, it never stops Giving their time all the while Always caring with a smile And for someone their life is ending It is ending today And they’re working round the clock 24/7, it never stops Giving their time all the while Always caring with a smile And they’re working round the clock 24/7, it never stops Giving their time all the while Always caring with a smile © Copyright by Jaquie Daniels 2018

Every star in heaven is singing All through the night Hear the glorious music ringing All through the night Songs of sweet ethereal lightness Wrought in realms of peace and whiteness See the dark gives way to brightness All through the night Look my love, the stars are shining All through the night Lighting, soothing and beguiling Earth’s sombre plight So when age brings grief and sorrow From each other we can borrow Faith in our sublime tomorrow All through the night Holl amrantau'r sêr ddywedant Ar hyd y nos "Dyma'r ffordd i fro gogoniant," Ar hyd y nos. Golau arall yw tywyllwch I arddangos gwir brydferthwch Teulu'r nefoedd mewn tawelwch Ar hyd y nos

In the dancing flames I can see my life It’s the youthful promise of a better life My energy, ambition and my hope are unchanging The impulsive child, my soul is raging Like the flames I want to leap and touch the sky Frustrated ‘cause I can’t reach that high And the flames dance on, dance on In the auspicious light of the full moon In the middle of the night In the middle of the night In the glowing embers I can see my life It’s the sweet contentment of a simple life Nurturing, enriching, giving warmth to others Lying below the flames, the love of fathers and mothers Like the embers I am satisfied to be And accepting that I’m not always free And the embers glow and glow In the auspicious light of the full moon In the middle of the night In the middle of the night In the still grey ash I can see my life It’s the resolution of an aging life Remembering, reflecting on the time that’s passing All that’s left are memories just for the asking Like the ash I am frail and grey For centuries it’s always been that way And the grey ash settles in the ground In the auspicious light of the full moon Will the end come too soon? In the middle of the night In the middle of the night In the middle of the night In the middle of the night In the dancing flames And the glowing embers And the still grey ash In the middle of the night © Copyright Jaquie Caulton 1994

about

Introducing Jaquie's new album, dedicated to her late mother. The mood is cheerful with a positive outlook. The songs were chosen to reflect a life that was well-lived and full of joy and laughter, rather than to express grief of the life lost.
