Got a committee meeting at 9am sharp Got a well-pressed suit I really look the part But there’s another at two down the corridor There’ll be coffee on the table They’ve cleaned the floor It’s a meeting well planned For a working party of four Chorus: I’ve got those “Got another meeting” Working party blues I’ve got those “Got another meeting” Working party blues I’ve been working all day to get those Working party blues Agenda’s all typed neatly Got the voicemail on I lock the office door Another morning’s gone When I get back there’s a report to do About the implications and decisions too Where will it all end Is there nothing better to do? Chorus When I get home tonight I’ll put the TV on Relax and have my dinner Call my old friend John Coffee and a nightcap at half past ten But as my head’ll hit the pillow It’ll all come back and then Those working party blues will Fill my dreams again Chorus
2.
Crossing the bridge at 8.15 Traffic streaming past me, it never ends Two wheels that take me over the water Near the point where the river bends Chorus: Swift swift the wind Swift swift the wind The river runs, the river runs away (Repeat) Crossing the bridge at quarter to six Up the hill and homeward, the day is done Boats pass under the bridge all shapes and sizes They carry their cargo or sail for fun Chorus Crossing the bridge at 8.15 Traffic streaming past me, it never ends Two wheels that take me everywhere Much to the surprise of family and friends Chorus
3.
On a cold but sunny morning There’s a busker playing his guitar People pass and throw some coins down That’s thanks for playing one more bar Chorus: Stop what you’re doing and listen to the one-man band Stop in your tracks and hear him sing All stop now and listen to the one-man band Stop in your tracks and hear him sing Day by day it gets much harder ‘Cos the streets aren’t paved with gold Can it be a way to make a living? Will he do the same when he gets old? Chorus He stops and looks at all the small change Roughly counts and rubs his hands Plays one more song as the day winds down Dreams of sea and summer sands Chorus (twice)

It was the morn of 14th of October 1913 A fearful sound ripped through the streets It could have woken the queen It was not long before we knew The coalmine had caved in 400 and more dead now The like we’d never seen Chorus: And you bet your life we’re lucky, lads That God has saved our soul And you bet your life we’re lucky, lads That we were not shifting coal (Repeat) Two of my boys and I work At the Senghenydd pit Now we are thanking God That we were not on shift We’ve all shed tears at the loss Of friends that passed away On some streets there is not a house That escaped death on that day Chorus Oh Dai and Jack and Ronnie Will no longer call my name Without their cheerful faces I will never be the same A friendship can’t be measured It cannot be replaced Their souls are crying in the dark Their bodies lie under the waste Chorus They expect us all to work long hours With no room to move around And some say they have barely paid A penny for what they’ve done Oh Universal is the name That will not be forgot And that will surely not be For improving the miner’s lot Chorus
5.
Well she’s proud in many ways When she looks back on childhood days Liz’s dad was in the fire brigade They moved from town to town Wherever sirens would resound In Hampshire county their life was made Chorus: But she could never settle down As they moved from town to town Life was never dull or grey for a fireman’s daughter And though she made friends on the way She knew they wouldn’t stay Life was always on the move for the fireman’s daughter A different school each year And home was always near But it was hard to settle down to learn It was maths that caught her out She hoped the teachers wouldn’t shout When they marked her books they always looked so stern Repeat Chorus It was no 9 to 5 Would Dad come home alive From fighting fires wherever they were called And he saw death first hand Buildings burned down to the ground Bodies covered in burns and worse things so they heard Repeat Chorus And when those times got rough He couldn’t shirk, had to be tough No words of comfort when the going got too hard He had to do the best he could In the bad times and the good Never speaking out he always kept his guard Repeat Chorus

It’s ten to seven, I should get up now Get my clothes on and face the morning Leave the house and hit the road now Destination: the factory of life But everyday just gets a little harder To see the same old papers everyday To keep on smiling while the phone is ringing Just counting the hours till the time is mine Chorus: And if I have a little rest and I have a little wine Everything will be fine I wonder how I spend my days just working Working through this endless white collar maze This factory of life just keeps on going My PC and phone keep me occupied But at 5pm I’m always right on cue To leave the office and get back on home Should I give more time and show I’m willing Trouble is, where do you draw the line Repeat Chorus For everything there’s rules and regulations From financial to how to use the phone There’s red tape with most everything we do Maybe I’ve worked here for far too long Maybe I just need a change of scenery To be a bigger cog in a smaller wheel Yes, I think I’ll make my break for freedom It’s time to go, I think I’ve read the signs Repeat Chorus So on Saturday I’ll get the paper Search the job ads for an opening And on Monday I’ll ring the agency There should be some opportunity But it’s always the same old story For when I get an interview It goes to someone they already know So what chance do I get to really shine Repeat Chorus

Here comes Dave again League lists in his hand Who’s scored the goals this week Did they all get what they planned? Daren’s got the highest score Alan’s on his tail Neil’s got two new players But did he regret last week’s sale? Chorus: Football fever In the fantasy league Football fever Week to week intrigue Football fever The competition’s hot Football fever Give it all you’ve got Joyce is on a winner She’s got the best defence Betty’s gonna change her goalie She knows that it makes sense Will they get the hottest tips If they watch the latest match Will Lawrence sell his striker Or will he say “What’s the catch?” Chorus And when the season’s over Who’s gonna win the cup? Watch that Alan close the gap Looks like he’s on the up Chorus

Kirsten 02:38
Chorus: Kirsten Kirsten Kirsten Kirsten Work that body She’s last out, first in Gonna get myself in shape For the gym I won’t be late The routine’s just begun Getting ready for the Florida sun Chorus Gonna get myself in shape I won’t eat any more cake Darling I have to confess My body is just a mess Chorus But it’s different when I get home Without my lover I’d be all alone Gonna get myself in shape I’ll get out that measuring tape Yes I’m gonna have fun Getting ready for the Florida sun Chorus
9.
She manages quite well Sneaking in at twenty to nine Never there when you need advice When she’s back she’s got the work cut out fine It’s a list the length of your arm With tasks numbered one to ten And just when you need an answer She’s in a meeting again Chorus: She knows where she’s going But she won’t say where she’s at Before you know it She’s done a disappearing act He’s got all the answers Another one who cuts it fine Then in meetings all day long Which were next door all the time As soon as he’s out of the door The telephone starts to ring They want to know when he’ll be back Well, how long is a piece of string? Chorus: He knows where he’s going… The meeting’s about to start But wait, someone’s not here Did he know where it would be Or was the time not clear? Someone thought they saw him Was he in the lift going up? Then someone remembers He’s just washing his cup Chorus

War of words 03:38
It’s a troubled time at our place of work There are whispers heard where the shadows lurk For the pressure’s on and the spirit’s low No money in the pot and nowhere to go And the one in charge is standing firm So they’ll go on strike till they get their way And she’s made a change to their holiday There are meetings held by the unions So that they can plan the rebellion And one by one the votes are counted Chorus: This never ending battle This war of words Carries on, carries on Just a figurehead or a heroine? She has to make a change, take the whole thing in “So I understand you don’t like my style We’ll negotiate, make it worth our while.” But they won’t back down, they find another flaw Do they still recall what they came here for? And so it seems it’s a personal vendetta Chorus Are the unions right Because they put up a fight? Oh They still want more pay but she just says no Yes I heard it all on the radio After one whole week of fear and doubt Will there be another day’s walk-out Or will they lay down their resistance? Chorus Will this never ending battle This war of words Ever be won, ever be won Ever be won

Tapping away by the Telecom Tower On a grey Monday morning, going slow I found myself thinking, after only an hour That I wanted to climb through the window The street I was facing I couldn’t quite place But what mattered most was the view I hoped I concealed the blank look on my face While I worked at my dull VDU Buildings are far more interesting than numbers Their character can catch the eye But that I should find my time so unencumbered Oh, then the hours would simply fly by My colleagues would probably have thought I was mad They were a young and impressionable crew But why should I worry? No one can disturb One’s internal meditational view Tapping away by the Telecom Tower On a bright Friday morning with cheer In a couple of hours I was looking forward To sipping a half pint of beer And then later on I would cycle home And leave all that tapping behind Saturday and Sunday for many exist To clear and refresh the mind

On eBay 02:48
What shall I buy today On eBay, on eBay What shall I buy today? A shirt in midnight blue A Christmas present or two That’s what I’ll buy today on eBay What shall I bid today On eBay, on eBay What shall I bid today? 50 quid for a ring I’ve found When I come back it’s 200 pounds! That’s what I’ll bid today on eBay What shall I sell today On eBay, on eBay What shall I sell today? That shirt in midnight blue That present from Auntie Sue, shhh That’s what I’ll sell today on eBay Oh I could spend all day On eBay, on eBay Oh I could spend all day Buying other people’s junk And my lounge looks like it’s shrunk Oh I could spend all day on eBay But you’d better beware On eBay, on eBay Oh but you’d better beware That iPhone that you bought Well the seller’s just been caught Handling stolen goods on eBay What shall I buy today On eBay, on eBay What shall I buy today? A shirt in turquoise blue A Christmas present or two That’s what I’ll buy today on eBay That’s what I’ll buy today on eBay That’s what I’ll buy today on eBay

For what seemed like eternity I thought what I’d prepared to say But the words soon seemed meaningless In the cold light of the day But the answers that came back at me They questioned my integrity I saw the four walls closing in And I could not stand my ground Chorus: And because I did what I thought was right They drove me out of town (Repeat) Drove me, drove me Drove me out of town And because I did what I thought was right They drove me out of town I was summoned to hear of my fate The worst of it confirmed my fears A decision had been made for me And I cried bitter tears Truth, respect and honesty Have gone as far as I can see The midday sun I could not see As the minutes counted down Chorus So I was left with a bitter pill To take which meant I had to go Without a word, without farewell To the faces that I know Those in whom I put my trust Have turned out to be quite unjust The sun was bright but my heart was black At the hostility I’d found Chorus Those who judge and those who wait Will find out that my hand was forced And as I turned and walked away I knew that there was no recourse Chorus

I had a white Nissan Micra The story’s sad to tell It only had three owners But it’s really just as well My dad told me that a friend of a friend Of my stepbrother Dave Was selling a white Y reg model A few hundred I could save Chorus: Diddly dooden day Diddly dooden day Diddly dooden dooden dooden Diddly dooden day (Repeat) So I bought the car from a man named Dan He’d bought it for his girl But the price he paid was far too high She left him in a whirl So for five months it was idle Reminding him of his fate He wanted to get his money back Before it was too late Chorus Well Dan bought the car from a woman Who’d injured her poor old knee She wanted to drive an automatic To ease her injury So I had a white Nissan Micra To replace one that served me well I’d hoped that some misfortune Wouldn’t make me want to sell Chorus It was parked up on the roadside One morning there was a bang Someone had dented the left hand side But didn’t own up and ran We think it was the bin men My insurance didn’t cover the hit And so I drove it with the dent And now I’ve got to replace it Chorus
